Jet d’Eau – Geneva, Switzerland

Jet d’eau is a fountain with a 140-metre-high water jet at the periphery of Lake Geneva. It was installed in 1886 at the Usine de la Coulouvrenière (a little further downstream from its present location) and used as a safety valve for a hydraulic power network. Its aesthetic value was recognised in 1891 and it was moved to its present location. Since then it has become the symbol of Geneva.
